Nacido en Bélgica en 1974, de padres apasionados por el arte. Estudió 3-
Dimensional Art & Design en la Royal Art Academy en Gent (Bélgica 1992-1996). Hasta donde él puede recordar, ha sido un ‘creador’ desde muy joven. Era lógico ir y estudiar arte. Algunas veces después de terminar la academia de arte, terminó trabajando en la industria de la televisión, el cine y la publicidad. A pesar de que era un ambiente menos “artístico”, desarrolló sus habilidades, lo que le dio la posibilidad de expresarse en diferentes formas de arte. Trabajó en esculturas, instalaciones, pinturas, dibujos, artes gráficas y fotografía. Sin embargo, el trabajo fue muy absorbente y desde enero de 2018 (cuando se mudó a México) pudo
finalmente enfocarse solo en el arte. De la pintura más “clásica”, evolucionó gradualmente hacia el purismo y la simplicidad visual. En 2018, más y más texto se deslizó en sus piezas y hoy en día aproximadamente el 95% de su trabajo contiene texto y se ha vuelto cada vez más conceptual. Sin embargo, no apunta hacia un tipo intelectual de conceptualismo. No quiere hacer arte comprensible para un tipo de audiencia de élite. “El arte tiene que hablar por sí mismo, y en lo que a mí respecta, el arte conceptual es la forma de arte para establecer esto. Intento hacerlo para que cada pieza que hago se explique sola. Además de eso trato de lograr una cierta belleza, aunque eso se ha convertido casi en una mala palabra cuando se trata de arte. La belleza se encuentra dentro de la cantidad correcta y la combinación de imperfecciones y, de preferencia, la simplicidad debería ser la regla.” Aunque no se considera escritor, todo su trabajo comienza con el texto. Esas líneas deambulan, rasgándose hasta que la solución gráfica lo golpea. Puede suceder dentro de un día o puede tomar meses. Debido a su experiencia en publicidad, a menudo compara su trabajo con la redacción publicitaria. Una búsqueda de ese eslogan aparentemente simple, que trae un mensaje comprensible y cuidadoso, incluso cuando tiene un doble significado. Su enfoque principal es cuestionar las teorías establecidas, el lenguaje, el arte y a sí mismo. El humor siempre está presente.
Born in Belgium in 1974, out of parents passionate about art. He studied
3–Dimensional Art & Design at the Royal Art Academy in Gent (Belgium 1992-1996). As far as he can remember he has been a ‘maker’ since very young age. It was logic to go and study art. Few times after finishing the art academy he ended up working in tv, film and advertisement industry. All though that was a less ‘arty’ environment he increased his skills a lot which gave him the possibility to express himself in different art forms. He worked on sculptures, installations, paintings, drawings, graphic arts and photography. The job was nevertheless very consuming and it’s only since January 2018 (when he moved to Mexico) that finally focus on art only. From more ‘classic’ painting he gradually evolved into purism and visual simplicity. In 2018 more and more text slipped into his pieces and today about 95% of his work contains text and has become more and more conceptual. He does not aim for an intellectual type of conceptualism though. He does not want to make understandable art for an elite type of audience. “Art has to speak for itself, and as far as I’m concerned, conceptual art is the art form to establish this. I try to do so that each piece I make explains itself. Besides that I try to accomplish a certain beauty, all though that has become almost a dirty word when it comes to art. Beauty lies within the right amount and combination of imperfections and preferably simplicity should rule.” All though he does not consider himself a writer, all his work starts with the text. Those lines wander around, ripping until the graphic solution strikes him. It can happen within a day or can take months. Due to his background in publicity he often compare his work to copywriting. A search for that seemingly simple tagline, which brings a careful understandable message, even when it has a double meaning. His main focus is on questioning established theories, language, art and himself. Humor is always present.
